It is a powerful resume that tells Stephen’s story quite well. But we didn’t get to this resume quickly or easily. There were bumps and bruises, starts and stops, and detours along the way. I’ll also tell you a bit of my story, as I am a resume writer who learned and grew from the experience of working with Stephen. I’ll tell this story in the form of issues, describing each issue encountered and the ways that the issues were resolved. Issue #1-Personalization. Managers want to hire people, not marketing brochures. Your resume should give them a good sense of who are and how you might fit into their team. It’s a recipe for disaster when your resume tells one story and your interview tells another. You do a disservice to yourself when you let others describe you without comment or intervention. You know yourself better than anyone else, so it’s your decision how you are portrayed in your resume. The first sentence in Stephen’s summary of qualifications statement answers one of my common questions when gathering information for a resume: ”What is it that makes you most proud?” Stephen loves to stretch software functionality almost to its breaking point-it’s a game to see who will win. Even though he’s proficient with numerous BI and data warehousing tools, Excel remains his favorite. It was during our discussions about Excel that I captured this sentence: ”Innovative technology professional who takes pride in building complex solutions with basic technology, getting the most from a company’s technology investment.”

So how do you choose the right resume writer? Try these tips. What job market are you trying for? There are resume writers who specialize in writing corporate resumes, and others who do more in the creative realm. No matter what kind of job market that you’re looking to hit, there’s a professional resume writer that specializes in that area. Obviously, if you’re trying to write a resume as a photographer, you’ll probably want to avoid the professional resume writers that generally work with CEOs! Do you need a resume or a CV? Depending on the job market that you are working for, you might need one, the other, or both. Resumes are, by rule, no longer than a page. A CV tends to detail your entire experience in a certain area, and thus is longer. There are professional resume writers who work with those wanting resumes, and those who want CVs. There are also some professional resume writers that work with both.

A poorly qualified candidate with an elegant, professional looking resume may get called for a job interview, while a stronger candidate can be left behind because of poor resume aesthetics or subpar presentation, and no one will ever know. It’s a one way street. A poor resume might generate a 1/20 interview ratio, while an exceptional resume should generate a 1/6 ratio or better. Resumes are often read with a negative bias. ”What is this candidate missing?” As a longtime recruiter, 50% of the resumes that I screened were poorly written. About 40% were average and only 10% were effective selling resumes. Most resumes are narrative, unfocused and are not ”selling resumes”. A Selling resume is at least 31% more likely to land interviews, 40% more likely to receive a job offer, and 38% more likely to be contacted by recruiters, compared to an average resume. A Selling resume is about 70% more likely to get interviews than a poor resume.

If you don’t have certifications, why not begin training for the one most applicable to you? These can ease a career transition proving your knowledge in new areas where you may not have as much work experience. There are many great online or in-person training programs to prepare you for the certification exams. 5. Show any Training and Education. List any degrees you hold since most employers want to see these. If you have work towards a degree, but are still pursuing or have never finished but you may someday, list it as in progress. You also want to provide a short listing of relevant technology training courses you have taken. Many candidates forget to list these items out. They can help further demonstrate your expertise and exposure to different technologies, especially for a less experienced candidate. I suggest putting Training last on your resume, just below Education. As an added bonus, listing these technology skill trainings helps add more key words to your resume and improve your results on resume screenings.

Representative Work- If one were to order a piece of jewelry, art or furniture, a savvy consumer will want to review the talent first, right? Nobody wants to spend money on an item without seeing samples of items or products that the ”artist” has produced. This is by far, one of the most telling tales of a resume service’s quality. Without viewing their resumes, how can you be sure that their resumes are really ARE ”the best” or the ”most successful?”

How to Choose a Professional or Executive Resume Writer. Need an Executive Resume? With over 200 so-called executive resume writing services listed on the web today, and many of them making lofty claims such as ”Best Resumes, ”Cheapest Resumes,” and ”Guaranteed Interviews or Your Money Back,” it can be confusing, to say the least. Deciding that you need an executive resume writer to help with your search is easy – finding the most qualified service for you will prove to be the real challenge. I’ve compiled a rather extensive suggestions as to what to look for which will be worth reading before investing any money. First of all, ask yourself what it is that you expect from an executive resume writing service. If you think that a new resume will automatically get you in the door, you’re wrong. A well-written, visually impressive resume that highlights your achievements will certainly improve your success rate, but there are no guarantees in ANY job search unless you maximize the use of your resume. You’ll also want to determine what you are willing to pay and why — are you looking for quick and cheap or are you willing to invest in your career? Those are two important questions that need to be carefully weighed.

Also, you should remember this important point: you need to show the employers what you can benefit them but not what you may benefit from them. The perfect resume must focus on the strength in necessary experience and skills that the employer may require from you. You will score more point with your knowledge about the employers and understanding of what they expect from you. 3. Different: Make your resume and resume differ from those of other candidates. As such, you should never start your resume with such general salutations as ”dear sir,” or ”dear sirs,” . Normally, when a company posts publicly a recruitment ad, it will surely address the name, address and contact number so as the resumes may be sent to correct address. Don’t miss these important details and don’t forget to start your resume professionally with clear address of the company and even, the name of the responsible person. Resume Basics: The resume should be divided in various sections to present all the information systematically. Before choosing the style of a resume, and writing a resume, one must know some basics that are a must for a professional look of the resume. The resume should never be handwritten. Use Times New Roman, Verdana, or Arial font, and the font size should be 12. Do not vary the font size and font in your resume. Instead of changing the size of the font for headings, it is advisable to mention the headings in ’bold’. This will maintain the standard font size throughout.
